The birthplace of Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke presents an interesting collection of the Parchim native's military, scientific, and literary achievements.Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke was a member of the Mecklenburg nobility and, in his role as Chief of the General Staff, played a significant role in the victories in the three Wars of Unification (the German-Danish War of 1864, the German War of 1866, and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71).The birthplace of Helmuth von Moltke is located at Lange Straße 28 in Parchim. The Moltke Memorial was opened in this house on May 26, 1994. It was established by the Moltke Foundation Berlin with the cooperation of the Parchim Museum. Visitors gain insight into the life and work of this figure, who was born in Parchim on October 26, 1800, and died in Berlin on April 24, 1891.
