The church probably dates from the 12th century, when Tollembeek became a separate parish. Before that time, the village belonged to the parish of Herne. This old parish church was used until 1870, after which it was renovated and rebuilt into a larger church. Contractor Léopold Devreux from Waterloo oversaw the execution of this construction. The church as it stands today was consecrated in 1873. The finishing inside the church was only completed later, in 1923.
