Patron saint of the impressive cathedral of Dol de Bretagne is St. Samson (495-565), a Welsh monk who came to Brittany at the beginning of the 6th century, where he founded several monasteries, including Dol, which became bishopric from 555 was. The original Romanesque church was destroyed at the beginning of the 13th century, and the construction of the cathedral, which began as late as the 16th century, combines Romanesque, Anglo-Norman and Gothic elements.
