If you enter the Amsinckpark in Lokstedt from the Hagendeel underground station, you cannot guess that there is a beautiful old villa, a little hidden inside, on a small hill. It indicates that you are in a former private property.

The Hamburg merchant Wilhelm Amsinck bought the site in 1868 and had the representative house built on it. The neoclassical villa, designed by the well-known architect Martin Haller, served the family as a summer residence in addition to the town house. Together with the villa, Amsinck had the 5.7 hectare park planned by the horticultural engineer Friedrich Joachim Christian Jürgens. It was laid out as an English-style landscape garden between 1868 and 1870.

In 1956 the park was acquired by the city, built on in parts and otherwise made available to the public. Since then, the area, which is part of a tawny owl territory, has been freely accessible. After years of vacancy since 1978, the villa was renovated from 1981, but was again vacant afterwards, which severely affected its substance. Combined residential and commercial uses are currently under discussion.

In 1991, colored metal sculptures by Arthur Boltze were set up in Amsinckpark on the way to the underground station. Both the park and the villa have been a listed building since 1993.

Amsinckpark is a fairly large park that was once a private garden with a large manor house. The Hamburg merchant Wilhelm Amsinck had it created in 1868 as a landscape garden in the English style. The magnificent Amsinck Villa is located in the park. The neoclassical building stood empty for decades and fell into disrepair until a new tenant was found in 2015 with the Rudolf Ballin Foundation.

The large mansion is the icing on the cake of the park.
