We just cycled this track from Whitby to Robin Hood Bay (and back).
The track is a lovely ride, away from traffic and close to nature. The surface is a little muddy under the trees at Whitby but the gravel is now fine for all the family the rest of the way.
Look out for either the bike shop/cafe en route, or the little drink/cake stop with an honesty box. Thoroughly recommended.

Twenty miles of uninterrupted track from one great coastal town to another sounds amazing however, the surface is terrible and badly maintained, there are long sections of gravel which has been laid heavy so your wheels sink in causing drag, this goes on for miles, the more natural sections have endless potholes, large stones and if it’s wet mud, mud and more mud.. the best sections seem to be when your approaching residential areas but your them slowed down by dog walkers and irritating gates.. if you’re doing any sort of distance around this coast I would recommend missing this out and hitting the road.
