After Schierke had gained importance at the beginning of the 20th century due to the rise of tourism, Schierke, which had been a manor district until 1923, became an independent municipality. The town's offices were located in the trading building, were cramped and not representative. The spa and municipal administration were also housed in different locations. Since 1921, there had been discussions about creating a more suitable administrative headquarters. The actual decision was made in the autumn of 1926, and construction began in May 1927. The town hall was built on the site of an old horse stable belonging to the Fürstenhöh Hotel. The financing of the fairly large building, which cost 162,000 marks, was supported by craftsmen, guesthouse owners and hoteliers.
