  • Saint Martin is - next to Saint Nicholas - one of the most popular saints of all. The memorial day of the former officer in the Roman army is November 11th. On the night after the famous “coat sharing”, when he surrenders half his army cloak to a freezing beggar, Jesus Christ appears in a dream. He converted to Christianity and was later elected Bishop of Tours - initially against his will. Almost every child who grew up in Germany should have fond memories of lantern handicrafts in kindergarten and elementary school, the evening lantern parade through the dark village / district - and of course the delicious "Weckmann".
