Unfortunately, the shore is not open to the public, but the path around the lake offers many beautiful views.

      Teutoburg Forest: panoramic route
Immediately after the start of the hiking tour, you will roam the famous Hermannsdenkmal. It is reminiscent of the Cheruscan ruler Arminius, who in the ninth year AD led Germanic tribes to a surprising and liberating victory against Roman legions. These legions were under the command of the Roman commander Varus.
After leaving the hamlet of Hiddesen on your left, you will reach the Donoper Pond. Here is the nature reserve Donoper pond and Hiddeser Bent. This pond feeds from the Hasselbach and was used in the past for centuries for fish farming. Even today, the traces of fish farming can be observed, as many different species of fish frolicking in the water.

On the route, you will encounter another lake: the Meschesee is a popular destination and popular with hikers, cyclists and anglers alike. The Meschesee is bordered by the Werre and can be fed at high tide with its water.

As penultimate sight on the route you can see the sacrificial stones in the forest Leistruper, in Detmold district Diestelbruch. These are several cubic meters of 200 million old reading stones, made of sandstone benches and containing layers of black and gray clay. Numerous grooves, holes and depressions suggest human cultivation for cultic purposes.

Just before you get to the starting point - the Cafe Hangstein - it is worthwhile to visit the well worth seeing Adlerwarte Berlebeck. With program points such as free flight demonstrations and public feedings, Europe's most traditional and species-rich eagle observatory is a remarkable magnet for young and old.
Overall, I find this a nice hike with some crisp climbs.
The experienced hiker does this in one go. It makes sense to start early.
