The Gastein High Trail was built between 1934 and 1938 and is located at a relatively even altitude of 1,000 m above sea level. The name Martin Lodingerweg refers to Martin Lodinger, who used to work in the Gastein mining industry and is said to have owned a house on the high trail not far from Café Gamskar (Ardacker, Bad Gastein). He was persecuted as a Protestant and emigrated with a few like-minded people in 1533.
