The Seeve
The Seeve rises between Handeloh and Undeloh and, after having meandered 40 km through the Geest, flows into the Elbe.
Here near Jesteburg you can follow the course of the Seeve a little and get good insights into the Heidebach habitat from small bridges. With a bit of luck, you can even hear the kingfisher calling or catch a glimpse of its exotic blue plumage when it flies close to the water.
Clear, cool and oxygen-rich water is essential for fish species such as grayling, brown trout and sea trout.
And the Seeve is cool: with an average temperature of 6 - 8 ° C, it is considered Northern Germany's coldest river.
