Founded in 1023 by Emperor Henry II, Haus Assen housed a succession of owners over the next 300 years. With the purchase of the property in 1396 by Röttger von Ketteler, the house began to take shape: the present Renaissance palace was built in 1564. About a hundred years later, it became the property of the von Galen family, who lived there until 2002. In 1997, Count Bernhard von Galen donated the property to the religious order "Servi Jesu et Mariae," which operated a boys' boarding school there for almost 20 years.Today, Haus Assen is used as a spiritual center and meeting place for young people and families. Its extensive offerings include retreats, faith courses, family weekends, and youth programs such as scout camps and knight's days.Guided tours once a month from March to October.
