At the secluded Eckertalsperre is usually not much going on, because the next parking lot is far away. Previously, the German-German border ran through the middle of the dam. A landmark on the dam still reminds of it today.

From the dam of the Eckertalsperre you have an excellent view over the lake. On the dam you can still see the border post of the German division. This border ran right through the Eckertalsperre, which contributes to the drinking water supply.

The Eckerstausee is just beautiful. On the side with the root path one has particularly beautiful views over the lake. It is worth it!

Especially from the side with the root track you get a little closer to the lake and has a gorgeous view.

Stamp office 1 / Eckertalsperre (dam)
The Eckertalsperre is idyllically embedded in the resin landscape between Bad Harzburg and the Brocken.
The reservoir serves the drinking water supply of the cities Braunschweig, Wolfenbüttel and Wolfsburg. The water is directed to the Lewerberg reservoir near Liebenburg, where the drinking water from Granetalsperre arrives. From there, a line continues to the Thieder Lindenberg and on to the cities of Brunswick and Wolfsburg. At the time of the division of Germany, the inner-German border ran through the middle of the storage room and the dam, which was only accessible to the public on the western side by two-thirds. The eastern part of the dam crown was separated with a wall and barbed wire. The former border post was preserved and supplemented by several information boards. The Eckertalsperre was chosen by our hiking friends to the most beautiful stamp place 2007.
