Recently a special museum was opened in the former Kelmis train station, the Museum Vieille Montagne.

As the name suggests, it is primarily about the mining of zinc ore, also called galmei.

However, the museum is not only concerned with mining, but also with the history of the place, which was located on the neutral territory of "Neutral Moresnet" for more than 100 years.

Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and admission costs between 4 and 6 Euro. Further information can be found at: ostbelgien.eu/en/fiche/museum/museum-vieille-montagne

I think a lot of information has already been given in the previous comments. I would like to add that it is thanks to the Ohn family from Kelmis that the former management building of the Vieille-Montagne lives on today as a museum. This left the property largely in its original condition.
In cooperation with VM-Zinc, the original, historical seaming tools could be used when renewing the roofs. Parts of the old, original roof covering are now in various mining museums.
The small building on the left that now houses the reception was the terminus of line 39, which allowed the ore to be transported via the Belgian rail network, but was also used for passenger transport. On the first floor there is a small but nice railway museum dedicated to the history of the railway line.

The museum is very interesting and lovingly made. An important part of European history played here, and Esperanto was the first attempt to become a unified international language, not the language of the occupiers or rulers.
