The statue of Andrei Mureșanu from Bistrița was created in 1937 by the sculptor Corneliu Medrea. The inauguration of the statue took place on November 27, 1938. After the Vienna dictatorship, the statue was transported away in 1940 and placed in Sibiu. After the return of Northern Transylvania to Romania, the statue was brought back to Bistrița and placed on the pedestal that the Hungarians had prepared for a statue of Miklós Horthy. Andrei Mureșanu (1816-1863) was a Romanian poet and revolutionary from Transylvania. He was one of the leaders of the 1848 Revolution.
