A platform can be found in so-called 'Bonnes Villes' or 'Good Cities'.
These cities that belonged to the former Prince-Bishopric of Liège had a certain form of freedom, autonomy and jurisdiction and were allowed, for example, to build a city wall.
A platform, a column with a pine cone and a cross on top, symbolizes these city freedoms. The Beringen platform can be seen in a sketch by Robert Péril made around 1510, but has disappeared from the street scene for a long time. It was re-established here in 2021 when the Market was redeveloped.
