The existence of the church dates back to the seventeenth century when it was built.

In 1913 the church was restored because it was in poor condition, so much so that Monsignor Radini Tedeschi suspended it from functions on a previous pastoral visit.

In 1924, repairs and renovations were carried out on the church.

In 1929, repair work was carried out on the bell tower.

The church is oriented according to the traditional liturgical scheme and has its facade facing east, crowned by a gabled roof with wooden eaves. The entrance portal has a simple stone outline and is preceded by a stone staircase.

On the sides of the door, there are two rectangular windows with a stone outline.

Enea Salmeggia, known as Talpino, born in Salmezza, an undocumented year prior to 1565 - died in Bergamo on February 25, 1626, was an Italian painter of the late Renaissance, mainly active in Bergamo.

From an early age, he tried to learn the pictorial arts from Bergamo artists, although it is believed that he may have received training at Simone Peterzano's workshop in Milan.

It is hypothesized that Salmeggia met Caravaggio at the school of Peterzano, of whom he was a pupil from 1584 to 1588.

He signed the paintings with the caption "Salmezza il Talpino", so much so that in some documents the caption appears: "Enea Salmezza painter, Talpino finger".

The work "Deposition from the cross" by Enea Salmeggia known as Talpino, arrived in Brera in 1802, comes from the church of San Leonardo in Bergamo, which at the time of the execution of the altarpiece (1602) still belonged to the ancient order of the Crociferi , suppressed by Pope Alexander VI in 1656.

The altarpiece was considered one of Salmeggia's masterpieces, known as the "Raffaello" from Bergamo.

The Brera Deposition is an example of how laborious and lengthy the artist's elaboration was, always in search of an ideal perfection.

There are countless regrets and corrections that occurred during the work, highlighted by diagnostic investigations and in many cases also visible to the naked eye.
