The village of Salmezza is located at about 1000 meters above sea level, between the Podona and Filaressa mountains and has 10 inhabitants.

The name seems to derive from "Salmetia" since it seems that there were salt deposits in the area, which supplied the Seriana and Brembana Valleys through the "Via Mercatorum" which not coincidentally passed from there.

Salmezza is also known for being the birthplace of the painter Enea Salmeggia known as the Talpino: among his works stands out "Madonna Enthroned with Child", kept at the Brera Art Gallery.

Enea Salmeggia known as the Talpino or Salmezza, was born in Salmezza from his father Antonio, the year is uncertain and died in Bergamo in 1626 where he was buried in the church of S. Alessandro in Colonna, a village where he had lived for most of his life.

He was a painter of the late Renaissance, Baroque period, mainly active in the Bergamo area.
His first known and important work is the Pietà di Riva di Solto, dated 1589.
The painter signed his works Salmezza but the italics in the letter "Z" has a final buttonhole, this has been interpreted as the letter "g" transforming his name into Salmeggia.

Salmeggia is one of the most productive artists of our territory. Talpino's paintings numbered around a hundred in addition to those of a clear "Salmeggesca" matrix made by his son Francesco, the workshop and his cousins, the Cesareo di Borgo Santa Caterina, who survived the plague of 1630.

To visit both on an excursion and by car, but if you get there on foot, lunch is better.
