The Bibert rises at a height of about 444 m above sea level southwest of the Schmalnbühl district, which belongs to the municipality of Flachslanden, on the Franconian Heights in the Franconian Keuper-Lias region. It flows through the Rangau and crosses the municipal areas of Rügland and Dietenhofen.

Due to the large population of the green clubtail damselfly and the traditional pond farming, the Bibert with its floodplain between Dietenhofen and Großhabersdorf and the Haselbach with its floodplain between Bruckberg and the mouth of the Bibert near Münchzell were declared FFH areas. The dark burnet blue butterfly, the yellow-bellied toad and the small river mussel can also be found in the 222 hectare protected area.[7]

There are a large number of different fish species in the water:

Grayling, barbel, trout (rainbow trout and brown trout), char[8], pike, zander, carp, tench, eels, rudd, nase, bullhead, goby and whitefish
