The building, built in 1609, has a ground floor made of quarry stone masonry and an upper floor made of half-timbered houses. At the top of the outer archway is the coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Julius Echter. Standing in the immediate vicinity of the Zehnthof, it received its former name. Over the years this name has been replaced by its current name Retzbacher Tor.

The building was leased by the municipality until the beginning of the 19th century and eventually became private property. It is still privately owned today.

The Retzstadter Tor is located on Obere Hauptstrasse and was the northern entrance to the town, from the direction of Retzstadt and from the vineyards. Until the bypass was built, only car traffic passed through the gate; with a clearance height of 2.40 m, heavy goods traffic could not pass through the gate. The gate tower is a two-story gate building with a half-timbered upper floor, gable roof and arched gate passage from 1609. The coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn is located on the apex stone. (Würzburgwiki)
