The Sagter Ems begins right here in front of this bridge. The confluence of the Marka and Ohe is the origin of the Sagter-Ems. Or, to paraphrase an old German poet:

    “Where Marka and Ohe kiss

    they must change their name,

    and here, through this kiss

to the Leda, the Sagter-Ems river is created.”

It then flows north for around 30 km through the varied landscape of the Saterland. The water is just as diverse. In the Sedelsberg area, the Sagter-Ems is still a narrow meadow stream, which is of inestimable value as a nursery for many species of fish. From Ramsloh and especially from Strücklingen, you can already feel the influence of the tides. Dikes and ebb and flow characterize the Sagter-Ems as a small coastal river. Predatory fishermen can hope for big pike, non-predatory fishermen for good carp and the less specialized angler for a comprehensive range of fish species.

When the Sagter-Ems reaches the former East Frisian/Oldenburg district border, it changes its name again and is officially called Leda.
