The house was built between the 19th century for Nikolay Kropotkin (son of the owners of Segewolds grange) and his young family. Nikolay Kropotkin (1872-1937) aided the de- velopment of this area; he modernized the Sigulda grange through the purchasing of new agricultural engines and cattle from abroad. But also in other areas he is regarded as a pioneer, he initiated the construction of the first bobsleigh run in Sigulda and founded the first automobile-club in the Baltic States.During WWII, the German Nord division soldiers occupied the building and built a bunker facility right next to it. When the German militaries left the building in 1944 after three years of occupation, a school re-opened again first as a Latvian and then as Russian middle school.Education took place in the building until 1984 when the Russian middle school moved into another building.
