The Church of San Cristoforo is located in the historic center of Cortona. It is a building dating back to the late Middle Ages, where you can still see the typical Romanesque style, albeit with subsequent renovations. Precious paintings and relics with a long history come from the church.
According to historical documents, the Church of San Cristoforo was consecrated in 1192. For this reason, it is one of the oldest churches in Cortona. The exact date is dated by an external plaque placed during renovations in the early 18th century. However, the original appearance was altered after a fire destroyed the town in 1575. The facade of the church is gabled, the interior of the Church of San Cristoforo has the shape of a classroom.
The half-timbered ceiling and the interiors are mostly 18th century. The high altar is noteworthy. The paintings date back to the fourteenth century and are kept in the sacristy.
