The small village of Buonconvento is located within the municipality of Siena and rises along the ancient Via Francigena. It has a small but fascinating historic centre, where the main church, the town hall and two museums are located.

Let yourself be fascinated by the typical red brick architecture and the different picturesque corners to take some great photos!

Small, medieval Buonconvento may be one of the most beautiful villages of Italy. Located south of Siena where the rivers Arbia and Ombrone converge, it has been for centuries a stop for travelers along the Via Francigena. It is also part of the area known as Crete Senesi. The name “Buonconvento” comes from the Latin “bonus conventus” which means “happy, lucky place.” The town was first mentioned around the year 1100 and then, thanks to its strategic position, it became an important centre for trade. The construction of the walls occurred mainly between 1371 and 1383. Buonconvento welcomes its visitors with an open, really enormous and heavy door made of wood probably 8 inches thick.

Buonconvento is a nice little town to stay for a night. In the middle of the most famous White Roads where to watch the Pro race Strade Bianche or where to make a stop during l’Eroica gravel tour.
