Originally built as a factory owner's villa, and only elevated to the status of a castle by popular belief, Coswig Castle boasts a surprisingly rich and varied history.
Post-reunification period: Since neither the state social security institution nor the city had any use for Coswig Castle after German reunification, it was sold into private hands in 1993. Since then, there have been further sales, but the castle has not undergone any renovation or serious use.
