There is also a very interesting sign about the "colonists", which I photographed.
In short, it tells of - as we would say today - immigrants from Hesse and southern Germany who were recruited by the then King Frederick V in the 18th century.
Several thousand set out on the 7-week journey in the hope of a better life in Schleswig.
The "Friedrichsheide" colony was located here, consisting of 3 farms.
