Burgos, the provincial capital of the Spanish autonomous community of Castilla y León, stands out for its medieval architecture. Its most famous landmark is the French Gothic-style St. Mary's Cathedral, whose three main entrances are flanked by ornate bell towers. Inside is the Condestable chapel, decorated with figures of saints, and the tomb of El Cid (Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar), a military commander from the 11th century.

On the 13th stage of the Camino Frances (counting according to Rother), Burgos is one of the high points on the Way of St. James. The cathedral is enormously impressive and a wonderful testimony to the faith of its builders.
