The Douro River is crossed by several bridges as it passes through Porto. The most famous of these is the Dom Luis I Bridge (Ponte Dom Luís I in Portuguese), which connects the city to Vila Nova de Gaia. Opened at the end of the 19th century, this iron bridge is one of the most emblematic images of Porto.

Ribeira's narrow cobbled streets are dotted with small bars and restaurants serving classic Portuguese dishes such as grilled sardines. Next to the Douro River, the Praça da Ribeira is lined with colourful 18th-century houses.

Very beautiful, on one bank of the Douro, the view of the port cellars and on the other bank very pretty view of the Ribeira district
