There are at least two lynx stones in the Harz Mountains. The older one is the Luchsstein northwest of Lautenthal. It commemorates the slaying of the last Harz lynx by a mounted forest ranger during a complex hunt lasting several days in 1818. The lynx stone here by the Abbe stream reminds of the successful resettlement of the lynx in the Harz Mountains in recent years.
This new monument with a bronze lynx on a diabase stone was inaugurated on October 20, 2017. There is also a nice area with seats.

A memorial for the lynx and a nice little rest area to relax 👍.
