An old farm was probably built with the founding of the Burgmannskollegium towards the end of the 13th century.

The Drostenhof, which still exists today, was built between 1545 and 1557 in the Renaissance style on the site of the medieval Burgmannshof for Dirk von Merveldt and his wife Gertrud von Nagel. The complex consists of the gatehouse, the outbuildings at right angles to it and the detached manor house. All buildings are built of bricks.

It is arguably the most important Renaissance building in Westphalia and one of the oldest secular buildings in the region: the Drostenhof Wolbeck. The listed building is located in Münster and is owned by the Count von Merveldt family.

After the Second World War, the Drostenhof temporarily housed displaced persons. From 1975 to 2012, it housed the West Prussian State Museum. Since then, it has been used privately again. The beautiful property, consisting of a gatehouse, an outbuilding wing, and a manor house with a stair tower, continues to dominate the image of Münster's Wolbeck district. In 1389, it passed into the possession of the Lords von Merveldt, the later Drosts of the Wolbeck district. However, the building only acquired its current form in the 16th century under Dirk von Merveldt and his wife Gertrud von Nagel. This is how the gatehouse and the manor house were added. The two staggered gables on the north and south sides of the building are particularly impressive. They later became the model for a whole series of display fronts in Münsterland. In two rooms on the ground floor, parts of a magnificent 17th-century stucco ceiling have been preserved to this day. It depicts scenes from mythology and contemporary hunting scenes.
