From 1850 onwards, Franz von Olfers had the Hohenfeld house built on the grounds of the Gehring farm in Altenroxel. The family was raised to the imperial nobility in 1803. Franz Theodor Olfers was a court councillor and banker in Münster.
To the north-west of the main building there is a neo-baroque chapel built in 1912 with well-preserved interior and a small ruler's gallery.

The Parkhotel Hohenfeld is located in the middle of a spacious and well-kept park landscape.
In 1967, a new, small castle was built from the ruins of Hohenfeld Castle, which opened as a hotel-restaurant in the same year. In the 1990s, a country house was added to the estate, which is located right next to the castle. This building was also added to the hotel business immediately after it was built. Because of this use, it is still not possible to visit Hohenfeld Castle today outside of events or as a guest.
