Archduke Johann and his family found their final resting place here. A remarkable tomb for a remarkable Habsburg! Architecturally and through its artistic design, the mausoleum is one of the most successful examples of neo-Gothic sacred architecture and, thanks to its exposed location on the Schenna church hill, one of the cultural highlights in South Tyrol. The Mausoleum in Schenna (also known as the Mausoleum of Archduke Johann) is an outstanding Neo-Gothic monument in South Tyrol. It serves as the final resting place for Archduke Johann of Austria, his wife Anna Plochl, and their descendants. The striking structure, made of red Ifinger sandstone and granite, shapes the village landscape right next to the parish church.
