St.-Elisabeth-Platz (4th), named (July 11, 1932 Municipal Council Committee for Culture) after St. Elisabeth (Elisabethkirche); originally until 1856 In der Sand Gestädten (also Vasquez Plan) until 1932 Karolinenplatz (1919-1921 Am Goldegg). In the grid-like parcelling at the beginning of the 19th century, a rectangular square was left out, on which the construction of the church (not realized until 1859-1868) was planned as early as 1844/1845, which was axially related to the ascending Argentinierstraße; it forms the center of the so-called Karolinenviertel.

The church was built in 1859-1866 at the request of Empress Karolina Augusta and according to the plans of the chief engineer from Prague in the k. k. State Ministry Hermann von Bergmann in neo-Gothic style as a free-standing brick building (with buttresses and polygonal chancel), whose tectonic members are reinforced with stone.
