The story behind the rooster goes back to 1918, when a German soldier returned from the war on the old bridge and brought a Serbian rooster with him. Because it was not allowed to bring a live animal across the border, a German border official ordered the rooster's head to be cut off on the spot.

This story, which adorned the front page of a Viennese newspaper at the time, was brought back to life exactly 100 years later in 2018 by the popular and busy photographer of the Passauer Neue Presse, Walter Geiring. From then on, Šijakovic and Geiring came up with the idea of making the story tangible with a sculpture. But Geiring died suddenly just two years later at the age of just 55. In his honor, the bronze sculpture now bears the name "Walter".
