The Braunau Citizens' Hospital was founded in 1417 by the nobleman Hartprecht Harskircher at Zangberg Castle, the treasurer of Duke Frederick the Wise of Bavaria-Landshut, and Nikolaus Auer of Lichtenau. The construction of the hospital and church was completed by around 1430 and served as a care home for the elderly until 1956.
