The Parisian sculptor Emmanuel Fontaine provided the town with a project for a monument with sculpture, dated 1921. Its cost amounted to 10,000 francs, a lump sum fixed by the deal made with Fontaine. The monument itself, made of Chauvigny and Lorraine stone, cost around 3,500 francs, and the statue 5,000 francs. 15,000 francs had been obtained by public subscription and 10,000 francs were paid by the municipality. The work was carried out by Fontaine in collaboration with Lescarcelle, a contractor from Courbevoie: both signed the monument, but the contractor's signature is today difficult to read. Acceptance of the work took place on October 2, 1922 but the monument had already been inaugurated on September 17, 1922. In 1994 a plaque bearing the photographic medallions of resistance fighters killed during the Second World War was placed on the front side of the base and the The monument's surroundings were modified by the creation of brick steps.
