Monument to the Children of the World

The Monument to the Children of the World is a monument on the North Cape plateau in Norway.

It is located southeast of the North Cape Hall and consists of seven large circular reliefs arranged in a semicircle. Opposite them is a sculptural group of mother and child, consisting of a female figure and a small boy who points at the reliefs with his left arm. The group was created by Eva Rybakken.

The monument was erected in 1989. The templates for the seven reliefs were made in June 1988 by seven children from different nations who came together here for a week. The children were Jasmin from Tanzania, Rafael from Brazil, Ayumi from Japan, Sithidej from Thailand, Gloria from Italy, Anton from the Soviet Union and Louise from the USA. An eighth relief explains the history of the monument in Norwegian and English.

The monument is intended to represent friendship, cooperation, hope and joy across all borders. Once a year, the Barn av jorden prize for commitment is awarded locally.
