The Midnight Sun Monument consists of a massive pillar made of masonry stones of different materials. On the pillar is a stylized compass needle pointing north towards the tip of the North Cape. The memorial was built in collaboration with twelve Scandinavian municipalities from Norway, Finland and Sweden, whose names are engraved in stones on the west side of the memorial. The memorial is intended to draw attention to the Midnattsolveien, the road of the midnight sun, towards the North Cape.
