The roots of Brandenburg-Prussian glassmaking lie with the construction of Brandenburg's first glassworks around 1575 at Burg Grimnitz. The vault of the castle is the oldest secular Romanesque building in the Barnim district. Today, castle ruins and glassworks belong to the Förderverein Grimnitzer Glashütten e.V. Here, regular events are held.

Every August (I was there on August 5th, 2023), glassmakers and glass artists meet here in Joachimsthal to work together at the furnace during the Glass Days, to exchange ideas, to discuss, to learn from each other and, above all, to show the public this old and yet new craft, which has changed only slightly over the centuries, and to arouse enthusiasm for it.
