"... A ravine that was created by heavy rainfall after the Ice Age. The predominantly westerly winds blew clay and marl into our homeland and a fertile loess layer formed. This makes the monument very valuable in terms of vegetation geography. Plants that grow on the Lower Rhine almost are extinct here. Eg the black knapweed, real sheep's wings and mountain sanddrops, to name a few.
A Roman road is said to have passed through this ravine in the past, from Aachen to Neuß. The gallows of Odenkirchen are said to have stood here in the Middle Ages.
