On December 6, 1910, the Gladbeck office building, today's town hall, was inaugurated. On April 1, 1885, Gladbeck, which was co-administered by the Buer office up to this point, was raised to its own office. At that time Gladbeck had 4,450 inhabitants. The enormous increase in population due to mining industrialization meant that the premises of the Gladbeck administrative office were constantly becoming too small. The amtshaus was already the third domicile of the official administration. On July 21, 1919, Gladbeck finally received city rights.
