The three-storey T-shaped city palace was built in 1583 during the High Renaissance for the court marshal Count Joachim von der Lühe (1526–1588) according to plans by the Dutch architect Philipp Brandin and is a testament to Renaissance architecture in Güstrow. The three-winged building in the style of North German and Dutch Renaissance architecture has a richly decorated western brick gable as a three-storey gable projection and a plastered gable on the side. The inscription GRATAE POSTERIATI ((for) grateful descendants) has been preserved on the western gable.

In 1629, the house was Duke Wallenstein's judicial office, known as Wallenstein's court. From 1708 to 1816, the court and regional court of Mecklenburg was also located here. From 1839 to 1909, the house housed a public school. After that, the Museum of Art and Antiquities was housed there until 1923. From 1923 to 1991, it served as a school again. From 1995, the house was renovated according to plans by Andreas Langkau (Güstrow) for the graphic designer and photographer Gunter Rambow (* 1938), who grew up in Güstrow. The house has housed a gallery and a studio since 2001.
