The mighty tower of St. Pankratius Church stands out strikingly from the red tiled roofs. Clearly dominated the building, which is located on a small hill in the old city center, the cityscape. According to tradition, St. Pancras was publicly executed at the end of the 3rd / beginning of the 4th century under Emperor Diocletian because of his Christian faith. The body of the martyr was buried on the Roman Via Aurelia - in the catacombs later named after him - under today's church "San Pancrazio". His feast day is on May 12th, he is one of the three so-called "ice saints" in popular piety, together with Servatius and Bonifatius (in some areas supplemented by "Cold Sophie" one day later).
