“Næpan” is a historic and remarkable building in Reykjavík, Iceland. It was built in 1903 by Magnús Stephensen, the last governor of Iceland. The building, originally known as the “Landshövdingjahúsið” (Governor's House), was named “Næpan” because of its distinctive dome. Magnús Stephensen, an avid astronomer, used the veranda around the dome for astronomical observations. Over the years the building has had several famous residents and has played an important role in Reykjavík's history. It remains an important cultural monument in the city.
