The "Sankt Petri Kirche" in Marschacht was consecrated to Saint Peter (Peter). Simon, nicknamed Petrus (rock), was a fisherman on Lake Genesareth when he - together with his brother Andreas - was called by Jesus Christ to be a "fisherman of men". According to the Catholic understanding he is the highest apostle, and the two millennia long line of popes - currently Francis - are in his successor. On statues and paintings Peter is almost always shown with two keys in his hand, this attribute refers to the Bible verse in Matthew: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; what you will bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and what you will loosen on earth will be loosened in heaven ”(Chapter 16, verse 19).
Together with Paul, Peter is also known as the "princes of the apostles", their common feast day in the saints calendar is on June 29th.

In 1216, the place Hachede was mentioned for the first time in a document. From the place Hachede emerged the places Obermarschacht and Niedermarschacht. A first church was already near the Elbe at this time. She was destroyed by ice drift. The adjoining church building was built in the years 1613 - 1615, at this location.
After the French era in 1821, the church was completely rebuilt and inaugurated on the 4th of Advent. Then in 1970 conservation measures became necessary. The galleries and the wooden stalls, as well as the altar with organ were removed and not reinstalled. The church received a very modern appearance. One third of the church space was used for installing community rooms. The inauguration of the converted church was on November 7, 1971. The altarpieces "Christ on the Cross", created before 1860, and pictures of Peter and Paul (recalled in 1860) were re-installed in the church or sacristy.
