The source is between the Belgian towns of Eynatten and Lichtenbuch, near Aachen. There the river is also called Göhl. The Göhl then flows through Kelmis and Moresnet until it crosses the border into the Netherlands after a good 20 kilometers. There it flows further through Mechelen, Valkenburg, until it finally flows into the Maas north of Maastricht.
