The stream has no clear source and is formed in a meadow area south of Saseler Weg in the Hamburg district of Volksdorf, mainly from the tributaries Klosterwiesengraben and Deepenwiesengraben. It flows in a southwesterly direction, crosses the districts of Sasel and Farmsen-Berne and after 8.3 km flows into the Wandse at Ostender Teich, which in turn flows via the Alster to the Elbe. Order. The Deepenhorngraben, Karlshöher Graben and Wellingsbütteler Grenzgraben are tributaries worth mentioning.
In 2014, almost the entire course of the stream was declared a floodplain by the Hamburg Department of Urban Development and the Environment, which restricts the construction and design use of neighboring properties.
