Thomasgschieß is a municipality in the Bavarian market town of Eslarn in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab, in the administrative region of Upper Palatinate. The hamlet is predominantly agricultural. The place name can be traced back to various origins: to a lordly administrator named Thomas and the location sloping northwestwards from Eslarn into a valley,[2] or to Old High German "geses" meaning "to be here", "sat here".[3] A third variant of interpretation derives gschiess from Bohemian kříž = cross, which is pronounced something like krschiejsch and was corrupted in Upper Palatinate to gschiess.
