Where is the parsonage of Kapellen located? You only know that if you look it up, look closely from a distance or walk onto the church grounds. After all, the answer is: south of the church and relatively well hidden with all that greenery. You can read the story of this piece of church heritage below.

In the first years of the 17th century, the parish was temporarily served by the pastor of Glabbeek. In 1613 the pastor obtained the tithes from the chapter of Tongeren. Later the pastor of Kapellen and Kersbeek also served the parish of Molenbeek. After the concordat, the parishes of Kapellen and Kersbeek remained connected for a while. Before 1619, there was no parsonage in Kapellen for several years. The guildhall was used near the cemetery.

Around 1619 a parsonage was built near the guildhall. Around 1745 the parsonage had become dilapidated and no longer habitable. The pastor stayed with a farmer. Instead of renovating the parsonage, they decided to build a new one. A loan of 1,200 florins was obtained and work started on October 5, 1753. The date 1754 is written on the facade. The parsonage is next to the cemetery immediately south of the church. It is a simple brick building, which originally only had a ground floor. The floor was added later. The distribution is classic: a door in the middle with two windows on the left and right. They are framed with sandstone: the window sills were later replaced. The door has a profiled frame with a pointed arch at the top. The outbuildings were added later. Since December 2006, no pastor has lived there anymore.
