Due to its striking silhouette, remarkable colour, extensive volume and location at a height in the middle of a walled cemetery, the St. Bartholomew's Church has a strong image and center-defining function for the village center of Waanrode. The east side is a beautiful illustration of 16th-century rural Gothic. In addition, the late neo-Gothic extension from 1902 is particularly illustrative of the oeuvre of provincial architect Augustin Van Arenbergh (1870-1937).

Hiking

At the church you will find a statue commemorating 875 years of Waanrode. It's called "Connectedness" and is by Roger Maho. You will also find a Sacred Heart statue on the main street, a little further to the east.
