The University. Padua has a famous university that is the oldest in Italy after Bologna (founded in 1222). She attracted students from all over Europe. The university is located in the Bo Palace. This name comes from the sign of a former inn that depicted an ox (bue). Guided tours are held and you visit the anatomy room. Recommended!

The Palazzo del Bò has been the historic seat of the University of Padua since 1493. The university was founded in 1222 and is, after Bologna, the oldest and most prestigious in Italy. None other than Galileo taught there and Copernicus came to study there. From 1493 onwards, the faculties that were originally spread across the city were gradually brought together in the spacious Palazzo del Bò in the center of the city. The name Bò refers to the name of the inn that was previously located here under the name Hospitium Bovis, Latin for 'Inn of the Cattle'. The owner, a wealthy butcher, used a bovine head as the logo for his inn. That bovine head is still the logo of the University of Padua today.
